Today is the International Day Against Fascism & Anti-Semitism. It’s origin dates back to an historical event in German history known as Kristallnacht (November 9-10, 1938) where members of the German Nazi Party and the Gestapo severely persecuted Jews in a major escalation of racism, ruthlessness and violence foretelling the Holocaust.

This day also remembers the beginning of the fall of the Berlin Wall (November 9, 1989). The Wall was erected to keep inhabitants of East Germany from escaping to West Germany; nevertheless, almost two hundred people were known to be killed while attempting to flee to East Germany defying The Wall.
